Unter der Bezeichnung rECOtimber wurde unter Reinhardts Feder- führung ein Verfahren zur thermischen Veredelung einheimischer Hölzer entwi- ckelt. Die Baton Rouge AR22S/ACE gehört zu den ersten Serienmodellen, die aus die- sen Hölzern gefertigt werden. Hier kommt neben dem Fichtenholz für die Decke so- wie Pflaumenholz für Griffbrett und Steg thermisch verändertes Ahornholz bei Bo- den und Zargen zur Anwendung, das mit seiner dunklen Färbung auch die opti- schen Gewohnheiten der Gitarristenwelt bedient. Bestacoustics in Tübingen is one of the most innovative companies in the mu- sic industry. This industrious outfit, led by Gunther Reinhardt, has brought an enormous range of products to the fair, mostly acoustic guitars from low- cost beginner instruments bearing the name of Chinese manufacturer Ran- don to flagship models from illustri- ous names such as Ramirez. Sustainable woods are a special concern of Reinhard, and not just since the CITES restrictions were imposed on rosewood. Under Rein- hardt’s direction, a process for heat treating native woods has been developed to opti- mise their tonal properties. It goes by the name of rECOtimber. The Baton Rouge AR22S/ACE is one of the first production models made from these woods. In addi- tion to spruce for the top and plumwood for the fingerboard and bridge, heat-treat- ed maple is used for the back and sides. Its dark colour is just what guitarists expect. Product News 3 Sonderareal für Gitarren Im Sonderareal The World of Vintage Guitars zeigt die Aus- stellung „Fender by Leo Fender: The Evolution of Fender’s Elec- tric Guitars 1950-1964“ die Modellentwicklung der goldenen Jahre des Unternehmens von Leo Fender anhand von Origi- nal-Instrumenten. Der Fender Custom Shop präsentiert zu- dem eine große Auswahl an Gitarren dieser Zeitspanne als hand gebaute Einzelstücke. Darüber hinaus sind Vintage-Gitar- ren ausgestellt, die bereits von Musiklegenden wie Joe Bona- massa, Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughan und weiteren Stars ge- spielt wurden. In einem separaten Raum stehen echte Schätze zum Anspielen bereit. Unter dem Motto Rate your Guitar können Besucher ihre mitgebrachten Gitarren begutachten las- sen. Experten geben eine Einschätzung über den Wert der Inst- rumente sowie eine Auskunft über möglicherweise enthaltene Hölzer, die im Artenschutz-Abkommen CITES gelistet sind. Ein weiteres Highlight ist die Fender Custom Shop Lounge. Hier gibt es Meet and Greet mit Darryl Jones, Ken Taylor, Peter Keller, Thomas Blug, Andreas Kloppmann und weiteren Stars der Musikmesse. Das macht sie zu einem Hingucker auf der Bühne. Da- mit sie auch zu einem Hinhörer werden, ist ein Fish- man Flex Plus als Tonabnehmersystem eingesetzt. Unter dem schicken Lack verbergen sich eine massi- ve Fichtendecke sowie ein Korpus aus Ahorn bei der GACE-3-SB+ beziehungsweise Blackwood bei der GBCE-3-SB+. Griffbrett und Steg bestehen aus tief- schwarzem Micarta. Holzalternativen finden Einheimische Hölzer sind die Gewinner dieser Situation, und in Amerika kann man auf schöne Nussbaum-Bestände zurückgrei- fen. Nussbaum bietet eine attraktive Maserung und zudem eine interessante Klangprojektion, die von Martin beschrieben wird als „zwischen Mahagoni und Palisander liegend, aber mit einem Schuss Koa“. Das soll speziell die Bässe betreffen, die weich und ausgewogen tönen sollen. Aus diesem Holz fertigt Martin zwei Modelle: die Dreadnought DE Black Walnut und die Grand Performance GPCE Black Walnut. Für die Verwendung auf der Bühne ist bei beiden Modellen das Tonabnehmersystem Fishman Matrix VT Enhance eingesetzt. Showing true colours The two Sigma models GACE-3-SB+ and GBCE-3-SB+ from the new Modern series have an attractive sunburst finish. That makes them real eye-catchers on stage. To ensure they also catch the ear they come equipped with a Fishman Flex Plus pickup system. Under- neath the stylish finish is a solid spruce top and a maple body in the case of the GACE-3-SB+ and blackwood on the GBCE-3-SB+. The fretboard and bridge are made from deep black micarta. Finding alternatives Native woods are the winners in this situation, and manufacturers in America can turn to beauti- ful walnut stocks. Walnut offers an attractive grain and interesting sound projection which Martin describes as “between mahogany and rosewood but with a touch of koa”. That will benefit bass tones which should sound soft and balanced. Martin is using this wood to manufacture two models: the Dreadnought DE Black Walnut and the Grand Performance GPCE Black Walnut. Mit diesem Setup werden via Controller Noten getriggert und mo- duliert. DU-JA ist in mehreren Leveln mit unterschiedlichem Funktionsumfang lieferbar. Instrumentale Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich. Der Hersteller sieht das Einsatzgebiet seines Angebots insbesondere in den Bereichen Education für Kinder, älteren Menschen oder in der Arbeit mit Behinderten. Active Music Joystick has launched a completely new type of musical controller. The DU-JA software runs on a Mac or PC and switches between a connected joystick and the MAXMSP soft- ware from Cycling74 running on the computer (a runtime ver- sion is sufficient). This setup enables notes to be triggered and modulated via the controller. DU-JA is available in different ver- sions with different functionalities. Previous knowledge of an in- strument is not required. According to the manufacturer, the product can be used in children’s education, in working with the disabled and in therapies with senior citizens. Die Methode ermöglicht es, durch Hit- ze die Zellstruktur von Holz so zu verändern, dass es in seinen akustischen Eigenschaf- ten den besten tropischen Tonhölzern nahekommt und auch ein optisch attraktives Aussehen bietet. Nun sind die ersten Serien- modelle erhältlich. Die Baton Rouge AR22S/ ACE hat eine massive Fichtendecke, Boden, Zargen und der Hals bestehen aus Riegel- ahorn. Für Griffbrett und Steg wurde Pflau- menholz gewählt. Alternatives to wood In view of the increasing shortage of the most important resource for guitar manufac- turers, namely wood, makers are now looking seriously at possible alternatives. Rein- hardt GmbH has collaborated with Eberswalde University to develop a thermal pro- cess for optimising native tonewoods. The method uses heat to change the cell structure of wood in such a way that it closely emulates the acoustic properties of the best tropical tonewoods and also has an attractive appearance. The first production models are now available. The Baton Rouge AR22S/ACE features a solid spruce top. The back, sides and neck are made of figured sycamore. Each bank can be expanded with two additional “personal” sounds (USB input), putting a total of 20 at your feet. The samples can be matched to the guitar signal via a volume control. The pedal is touch-sensitive, and this feature can be deactivated with a switch. With an optional trigger pedal you can trigger the second bank independently. The synth is primarily designed as a sound module for wind controllers but keyboard players and sequencer composers can also fully appreciate its musical abilities. The sound of the patches is full-bodied, warm and naturally electric, and the instrument is greatly re- sponsive to phrasing, articulation and tone-bending.The synthesizer was developed by a saxophonist in search of an instrument with distinct and true analogue sound, which could be played with the same satisfaction as an acoustic wind instrument. The resulting design lets the tubes express themselves naturally and uses the digital part only to vary the conditions. CHRT takes an open hardware approach so MIDI imple- mentation, circuit variations and custom chassis or case design can be finalised before the order is placed. Taking a classic to the next level Black Lion Audio is presenting three new products. First is the Seventeen, a mono FET compressor based on a studio legend but with extended features. In addition to a sound character with a powerful bass and open highs, the Seventeen offers functions such as a sidechain filter, high and low-pass filters for the signal path and wet/dry control. The second product from Black Lion Audio is the Auteur Quad which combines four units of the Auteur micro- phone preamp in a 19” de- vice. The first two channels offer the DI circuit of the Sys- tem 500 version of the Au- teur. The third product from the US manufacturer is the Patchbay Rack 8, a rack for API 500 components in which the inputs and out- puts of the individual can be easily patched on the front. The HA73 is a 1-channel, 3-stage class A micro- phone preamp with 80 dB of gain based on the 73 JR and DMA-73 Heritage audio models. In addition to the microphone in- put, the HA73 has a second XLR line input to add some extra analogue warmth and presence to recorded signals, for example from a DAW.
